What is Glipzide

Glipzide is a medication used in the treatment of patients with part 2 diabetes it is a medium to long lasting tablet that is classed as a second generation sulfonylurea.   

It was first marketed by Pfizer using the name Glucotrol in America where it was sold in doses of 5mg or 10mg and an extended time release version called Glucotrol XL of 2.5mg 5mg and 10mg. Other companies now market Glipzide but in 5mg and 10mg doses only. Glipizide is a second generation Sulfonylureas used to treat patients who have type 2 diabetes. It works by helping to control the amount of insulin the pancreas produces, and helps to control glucose in the blood stream.
